Ski resorts in the region cater to the novice weekender looking for adventure while also providing outdoor experts with amusements as well as challenges to get the blood pumping. The Appalachian Trail is a marked hiking trail originating in Maine and ending in Georgia. Transportation to destinations:If possible, renting a car is highly recommended. Public transportation is available, although limited in some towns. Hiring a taxi can be costly and they are often not readily available without booking in advance. Renting a car also allows you the flexibility to easily visit many towns, resorts, hiking/biking trails and parks in the region, according to your pace and schedule. The following destinations in the region are approximately 40 minutes to 2 hours from Manhattan.
